Think you're a Football Widow? Spare a thought for Lisa Dalheimer - her husband spins out his football fandom by supporting the most successful teams! Here Lisa shares her tips for getting through the next few weeks...
Name: Lisa Dalheimer
Position at Ryvita: Research Manager
Supporter or widow? Widow
What have you been doing while everyone else is glued to the TV?
It's really dependant on which team my husband has sworn his sporting allegiance to that day. It's England at the moment but previously he has switched over the Germany but the he watches all the matches so it doesn't make a difference! Thank God Austria aren't in there too, like at the Euros a few years ago, otherwise I'd never see Eastenders for the whole month. So my situation is even worse than the standard English football widow!
So far I've relaxed in the garden with my newspaper, a Pimms, and some snacks, like Ryvita Thins with a yummy salsa dip - I figure that balances out the Pimms! Or when games have been in the evening, I've had some of the other widows round for a gossip session with wine and more Thins and dips. It's definitely a good excuse for some ‘me time'.
And what's your top tip to fellow widows for surviving football season?
Be nice! Bring him another beer and more crisps, don't moan when he stays out in the pub with his mates - but make sure you bank that understanding behavior to be re-paid at a later date when you want something! One good turn always deserves another...
