Nuts & Seeds - what counts as a portion?

Nuts & seeds are a delicious addition to get more fibre, but it’s all too easy to munch lots of them. The British Nutrition Foundation suggests a portion as being: 

  • A handful of unsalted nuts or seeds (around 20g)
  • 1 tablespoon of nut butter (around 20g)


Why not try one of these FibreHacks to get more Nuts & Seeds in?

1.  Sprinkle seeds on your breakfast

OK, so it may be a bit tricky to add seeds to a bacon sandwich. But if you’re having cereal, why not add a handful of nuts & seeds to help up the fibre content?


2.  Reach for a handful of nuts as a snack

Nuts make for a great fibre snack at any time of day. Keep a bag in your office or in the car to make sure you’ve always got them on standby.


3.  Enjoy Nut Butter on a Crunchy Rye Bread

There are so many nut butters available now, and they’re all delicious on a crunchy rye bread. Add in some fruit and they’re even better. Why not try the classic combination of Peanut Butter & Banana here?
