Our Favourite Reads This Winter

Posted by Ryvita on 20th December 2019

Winter is the perfect time to relax up on the sofa (or in bed!) with a good book and pass the cold, wet days by. I have been reading books about fibre and gut health and thought I would share some of my favourites so far.

Firstly though, why would I be reading about fibre and gut health of all things!?

It wasn’t until I started working at Ryvita that I began to take a bit of an interest in fibre outside of the ‘regular’ conversation, fibre is a hot topic at Ryvita HQ after all! I have found in this reading that fibre and high fibre foods can have a positive impact on us.

Science is only just beginning to scratch the surface on how gut health and our body is linked. If you want to find out more, here are two of my fave reads so far!

Eat Yourself Healthy, by Dr. Megan Rossi

As it says on the cover “An easy-to-digest guide to health and happiness from the inside out” I really enjoyed how easy Dr. Megan has made understanding something so complex! From getting a variety of high fibre foods, to exercise (including gut-directed yoga flow!) and stress management, this book is a great read.

The Mind-Gut Connection, by Emeran Meyer, MD

A bit more ‘sciency’, I was astonished at how our gut and mind are connected, and it is not one way. Dr. Emeran also talks about the microbes living in our gut, gut bacteria and the importance of plant-based foods (seeds & nuts, grains, fruits & veggies, and legumes & pulses) which are the only foods that contain fibre.

With winter now upon us it is the perfect time to pick up a book, why not make it ‘educational’. 😊

Happy reading to you all.
