We aren’t sure who came up with the saying “laugher is the best medicine” but we reckon they must have been onto something, so we’ve come up with our top 5 reasons we should all laugh more...
1. It can boost your immune system
Some clever bods have discovered that laughter increases the number of antibody-producing T cell, which makes us less likely to suffer from colds and coughs!
2. It can relive pain
A good giggle has been shown to release feel good endorphins (plus it will act as a good distraction!)
3. It can help you find love (sort of!)
If you're looking for love, then laughter might be able to help you find your perfect partner. Men love women who laugh in their presence and women actually laugh 125% more than men!
4. It gives you a mini-work out
We've probably all used, the saying 'my sides ache' after laughing. Well, it's no real surprise. A good belly laugh exercises the diaphragm, contracts your abdominal muscles and also works your shoulders.
In fact, laughing 100 times is the equivalent to 10 minutes on the rowing machine or 15 minutes on an exercise bike!
5. It’s good for your heart
Heart specialists at the University of Maryland found that laughter has been found to benefit the way blood flows around the body, which may reduce the likelihood of heart disease!
Their research concluded that 15 minutes of laughter a day is as important for your heart as 30 minutes of exercise 3 times a week!
Charlie Chaplin once said "a day without laughter is a day wasted." So what are you waiting for? Dust off those only fools and horses boxsets!
